Difference between Basic and Standard Mathematics in CBSE Stream
Basic mathematics is designed for students who do not wish to opt for mathematics in higher secondary classes. In contrast, students who wish to pursue engineering with higher education will opt for standard mathematics. The syllabi for the basic and standard Mathematics are the same. The only difference is the level of questions for the assessment.
Basic mathematics focuses on fundamentals and direct applications with little stress on higher order problem solving skill. Standard mathematics questions require analytical , application-based based and higher order thinking skills which is of the most important for Engineering courses.
In simple terms, it can be taken that the student wishing to pursue Engineering degree can go with standard mathematics, and one who is interested in business maths and finance can align with the Basic mathematics
